Discovering Dolukanda: Unveiling the Charms of a Hidden Gem
Dolukanda,
situated in the village of Hiripitiya within the Kurunegala district, is famous
for the Dolukanda Raja Maha Viharaya. According to ancient legends, this hill
is linked to the belief that when Lord Hanuman was carrying the Great Himalaya
Mountain, some parts of it accidentally fell onto Dolukanda. As a result, this
mountain is also known as the 'Dolukanda Sanjeewani Mountain
Dolukanda holds significant historical value in Sri Lanka, with numerous ruins atop it believed to be associated with King Walagamba. The mountain stands at an approximate height of 600 meters.
How to reach the Dolukanda?
Dolukanda is situated approximately 20 kilometers to the north of the district center of Kurunegala. Its situated 115 Km’s away from Colombo and it will reach approximately 2 hour 45 minutes to reach to the destination depending on the road traffic.
Dolukanda is
recognized as a reserve by the Forest Department, and obtaining a special
permit is recommended for mountain climbing. Additionally, it is advised to
inform the monk at the Dolukanda temple. The trek to the mountain is moderately
challenging, so it is suggested to go in groups and avoid bringing senior
citizens and children. Caution should be exercised regarding encounters with
wild boars, snakes, and the possibility of wasp attacks.

you reach the top of Dolukanda, you can witness the picturesque beauty of the
Northwestern Province. One side provides vistas of Kurunegala and Wariyapola,

mountain. On a clear day, the beach extending to Chilaw becomes apparent.
At the summit of
the Dolukanda, it has a good viewpoint. Many youths are visiting this place for
